27.12 News from the Middle-earth

Still no news from Christiane and Lukasz. Only Ingunn and Danuta send some positions from the places where they were previously observed.

22.12 Santa goose

Dear Goose lovers,

Since there is no new positions, we at least wish you Merry Christmas, so the geese do not do any crop damage in the coming year, the tags work perfectly and we will get many new positions all year round.

19.12 Getting ready for winter break

Our geese or do not send any positions or do not do anything spectacular:) Hope, you are not getting bored.
Below Caroline and Ingunn at their usual spots.

8.12 What I say is what I get:)

I was getting worried about Lukasz and Christiane and hear it is. Lukasz just flew from northern Denmark to Tipperne bird sanctuary near Ringkøbing fjord. Welcome back.

6.12 1000 and two goose lovers

We just received 1002th click in our blog, yoooopieee. Half is made by myself by writing new news and another half of the left half by my boyfriend, to cheer me up:)

6.12 A gift for Santa Claus day

We only receive ARGOS positions and according to the satellites, Ingunn is back in the town. Caroline is feeding in the area where other pinkies are frequently observed. Danuta still in Friesland. We are getting worried about Lukasz and Christiane:(

30.11 No Thanksgiving Day for Caroline

24th of November Caroline sent one ARGOS position from the middle of the house in small Belgium town. We were a bit afraid that maybe he was about to become a lovely Thanksgiving dinner, but fortunately he is back on fields with other geese:) It was just an artefact from ARGOS location, uffff.

30.11 Ingunn joined Caroline

Ingunn just flew to Belgium which is probably his final stop before winter. Caroline and Danuta are still in the areas where they were observed before.

22.11 Back to the 'right' track

Caroline crossed the french border and is now in Belgium. Danuta joined the others in Friesland. Still no news from Chris and Lukasz. So it looks like everything is going back to the right track...

Positions from 20.11
 Positions from today (22.11)

15.11 Bye, bye Denmark, welcome Carlsberg, Heineken and croissant

Caroline and Danuta left Filsø area in Denmark. Danuta (black) is now in Holland. This is not the area where Ingunn (red) and Christiane are but it is within a bridge distance. Caroline (blue) moved even further and jumped to... northern France. Lukasz is the only one left in DK but we haven't got any positions from his tag since 7th of November. Christiane is also 'silent' but was spotted by Fred Cottaar on 6th of November in Friesland, unfortunately without wife and kids. So Carlsberg for Lukasz, Heineken for Ingunn, Christiane and Danuta and ... croissant for Caroline

13.11 Resurrection of Gitte

Gitte lost its transmitter at the beginning of breeding season in Svalbard. Till now we did not know whether this goose lost the tag but lived happily after, or died in Svalbard. 12th of November it was seen near Arkum in Friesland so we know it is doing well. We wish him happy goose life

6.11 Like looking for a needle in a haystack...

Only Danuta and Ingunn are sending new positions: Danuta still from western Jutland and Ingunn from Netherlands. Thanx to Fred Cottaar from Netherlands we know that Ingunn is doing well and has family (was seen paired and with one gosling), what is a great news. I tried to find Danuta and Caroline in western DK last Friday, with no success. Maybe there are somewhere in this flock: (I vote for the third goose from the right, fourth from the bottom, top picture)....

1.11 Autumn melancholia

Ingunn is the only one sending gps uplinks. Together with Christiane are exploring the Dutch land.
Danuta and Caroline are still around Fil Sø and Lukasz north from Limfjorden. So... nihil novi sub sole in the geese world.

26.10 Ingunn exploring the dutch land

We are slowly getting more and more GPS uplinks while the geese are moving south and solar radiation improves. Ingunn seems to explore the local are in NL and is particularly attached to one field where is observed both during the day and the night.

23.10 Ingunn and Christiane in the tulip land

Ingunn left Denmark and joined Chris on his dutch land. If we only relied on GPS positions (red) and do not take ARGOS into account (colour dots), we would think that Ingunn never stopped in Denmark.

Seems like Ingunn and Chris are exploring exactly the same fields (Christiane-green, Ingunn-red)

23.10 Danuta escaped battle field - a bulletproof goose

Danka moved to Ringkøbing fjord and is staying in Tipparne bird sanctuary. He had to pass through a hunting area south from the sanctuary. Lukasz is still north from Limfjorden.

20.10 Chris in NL

We haven't got any info from Christiane since 25.09. Today we received first ARGOS position from...Netherlands. Whether he stopped somewhere in between we don't know. Anyway, welcome to winter home

19.10 Danuta the explorer

Danuta is exploring new areas. More and more geese is seen around Fill Sø and soon they will invade neighbouring fields. When geese are on their stopover sites in Norway, they almost exclusively roost during the night time on a predator safe places. When they come back to Denmark, this pattern is no longer observed and geese can spend night hours on the fields. Whether they rest or feed at that time we don't know but resting sounds more probable.

14.10 Ingunn part of the team

Yesterday Ingunn flew to DK and joined Caroline and Danuta. Lukasz is still exploring northern DK.

10.10 Lukasz following Caroline

Lukasz joined the Danish group and is now in northern Denmark feeding in the same place as Caroline did before (Caroline - blue, Luka - pink). Now we are waiting for Ingunn and Christiane to join the rest of the 'family'.

10.10 Caroline feeling lonely in north Denmark

Caroline moved south from Ringkøbing fjord. During spring, he spent most of the time further north (red dots on the first pict). Now Caroline and Danuta are feeding on the same fields (pict below: Danuta - black, Caroline - blue)

10.10 Danuta jumps like Mike Powell

During long flight batteries are more likely to charge and we get more GPS signals. Also going south where the solar conditions are better helps a lot. Danuta is back with us and in a meanwhile he did a huge jump to Denmark.

7.10 Ingunn on his way to Denmark?

Each goose chose a different way from Svalbard to wintering ground. Ingunn surprised us most and chose  the way through Sweden. Is he going to stop in Denmark?

6.10 Danuta moving south

He spend only 5-6 days roosting in Trøndelag and now flying to Denmark

6.10 Lukasz still around Oslo

..feeding and roosting around capital city.

5.10 Ingunn jumped to... Sweden

Ingunn is roosting among 300-400 pink footed geese in the wilderness in Sweden

5.10 Caroline jumped to...Denmark

We thought he is going to stop by Trøndelag but instead went straight to ... Denmark. Welcome home! Note that he stopped close by his spring location (picture below).

02.10 The Jackson 5ive

All five geese left Svalbard. Ingunn (red) is moving further south towards Trøndelag and Caroline is almost there (blue). No more news from other folks.
Polish sky is black from geese flocks: grey lags, bean and white fronted geese and ... maybe some lost pink footed.

1.10 Lukasz still around Oslo...

1.10 Ingunn flying in to Northern Norway

After more a month break, we received first signal from Ingunn on his way South. Autumn is hard time for transmitters-too little sun for batteries to charge. But finger crossed for his long flight. Now we know that four out of five birds carrying the transmitters are on mainland. Still no news from Caroline...

26.09 Danuta moving south

Danuta moved south to Trøndelag. He is very close to the place which he 'used' on the his way to the breeding ground. Now is roosting after long flight ....

25.09 Welcome back!

After having no connection with our tags, we received first positions from the autumn migration. Lukasz and Christiane are on their way to wintering ground(s). Unfortunately we don't know too many details about their way 'home', whether they stopped in any 'typical geese' stopovers sites. Lukasz is flying towards Oslo.Christiane is also around Oslo and this is the first news after almost a month break. So welcome back and stay in touch! Fingers crossed for more news from other folks.

18.09.2011 Lukasz on his way home

Still no signals from 5 birds but yesterday we received ARGOS locations from Lukasz. He is on its way south. When geese are flying, batteries are more probably to charge so hopefully we can get more information soon.

16.09.2011 Hard times for the tags...

We haven't received any signals from our birds since many days. The solar radiation, cloud cover and shrinking day time in the Arctic do not let the batteries to charge. So finger crossed that on the way south, we get more uplinks. Trøndelag is full of greylags but no pinkies yet, so I assume that our birds are still freezing in Svalbard. Below the last position of Danuta from last week

28.08.2011 Nihil novi up North

The other four geese only send us ARGOS positions but we can see that they stay around the same areas.
